Summer Water Play

How do you make speech and language therapy more fun, especially in the summer?

Add water!

This summer we have been incorporating water play into a lot of our sessions. What kind of activities?

  1. Washing dishes-Using a clear bin we wash plastic dishes and pretend fruits and veggies. You just need water, soap and I cut a sponge in two, plus a towel. They love getting to pump the soap in, squeeze the sponge to make more bubbles and wash the dishes again after I’ve dried them:)
  2. Washing cars-Same idea as above, But with car, both big and small. I do make sure to dry them really well after our sessions so the metal pieces on the wheels don’t rust. Super fun if the kids can drive them in dirt/mud and make them dirty before the wash.
  3. Washing baby dolls and animals. Talk about body parts, wet/dry, dirty/clean while washing your favorite animals and baby dolls.
  4. Water balloons-The reusable water balloons are really fun. With a small bucket of water the kids can refill the water balloons themselves. I like to give them a target too
